Architrave Interior Design is proud to have our Chisolm project featured in the Summer 2024 issue of Harper's Bazaar Interiors.

Fusing historical preservation and modern revitalization and located in the South of Broad Historic District in Charleston, this two-bedroom apartment boasts grand ceilings and large steel windows within a neoclassical building dating back to 1922.

Designed by the renowned American architect David Hyer, the building, once the Andrew B. Murray Vocational School, underwent significant transformation in 2002 and now accommodates 27 upscale apartments, having earned the prestigious Carolopolis Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston.

Architrave Interior Design, led by Moe Draz, meticulously revamped the apartment to maintain its historical essence while infusing it with a fresh, vibrant personality.

The interior design features a citrus color palette of greens and yellows, harmonizing with the apartment’s industrial-style windows and neoclassical architecture. Design elements include wall coverings inspired by 18th-century European pieces and high-quality materials like silk, wool, and cotton.

Draz’s approach seamlessly blends antique lighting and traditional materials with modern touches, preserving the apartment’s historic spirit. Highlights include a Parisian-style entryway, a cheerful yellow silk wallcovering in the gallery hall, and a custom chinoiserie mural in the breakfast room.

Each room showcases the homeowners’ collection of art and antiques, reflecting their personality and heritage. The design philosophy emphasizes a balance of intuition, simplicity, and authenticity, ensuring a space where clients feel comfortable and inspired.

"I always strive to strike the right balance of intuition, simplicity and authenticity to ultimately deliver a finished product that our clients will love and feel comfortable living in," says Draz.
